Ronaldo was joined on the score sheet by Javier Hernandez, James Rodriguez and Isco, Ronaldo’s first goal coming from the penalty spot after a foul by Juanfran.
Madrid had Nacho partnering Pepe in the centre of defence after Raphael Varane was ruled out with a fever, the same ailment that saw Karim Benzema not involved, Hernandez starting and scoring.
Gareth Bale was an unused substitute with Liverpool to come in the Champions League in midweek, while Sami Khedira also made the bench without getting a run-out.
