Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has dropped goalkeeper Iker Casillas for the visit of Elche on Tuesday night.

Reports in Spain say the Spain international will be replaced in goal by Keylor Navas and was informed of the decision after training on Monday.

Casillas has been jeered by a section of the Madrid faithful lately and Ancelotti has told his squad that he wants to implement a rotation policy in the coming weeks, with Casillas being one of those to make way against Elche.

Earlier in the season the Italian announced he would be choosing a single starter for both La Liga and Champions League games this year, yet his decision comes just two days after President Florentino Perez defended the Real Madrid captain at the club’s general assembly.

“Iker Casillas deserves our respect. He’s the best goalkeeper in the club’s history and does not deserve the whistles he has received.

“We must unite to protect each other. Our strength lies in unity,” declared Perez.
