Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti believes his side lacked intensity in the 3-0 win over Celta Vigo.
Los Blancos struggled to impose themselves on the game before a 67th minute goal from Karim Benzema and two late Cristiano Ronaldo strikes gave the scoreline a more healthier look, but Ancelotti acknowledged it had been difficult against the Galicians.
“Our play was not so good, especially in the first half when it was slow, but that’s normal after the Christmas break and we lacked intensity.
“We used our full-backs a lot in attack and I thought Carvajal worked very well. We scored two goals from two centres,” Ancelotti told reporters post-match, before going on to praise goalscorers Benzema and Ronaldo.
“Benzema is doing well, not only because he scored but because he is also important to our style of play.
“With Cristiano, I know very well that he likes to play out wide, yet he scored two goals from a position he doesn’t normally occupy.”
Ancelotti was asked if youngster Jese would be getting a more regular role after providing an assist for Benzema’s opener and impressing with his general play.
“At this moment Jese is very important for us, but I’m always going to put out the best team possible because we need to keep on winning.
“He has a chance of playing against Osasuna in the Copa del Rey. He is one of our most important players, including when he doesn’t start.”
The Italian was also invited to comment on an alleged gesture by Angel Di Maria to the crowd after being substituted by Gareth Bale on 65 minutes.
“I did not see the gesture, but for me it’s not important as I have a lot of confidence in him. Even so, it was a mistake.
“The Bernabeu whistled him and I don’t think that was fair, yet after the whistles the team reacted,” he asserted.
