Garcia hails Atletico spirit

Raul Garcia has praised the never-say-die attitude of Atletico Madrid after the Supercopa first leg with Real Madrid ended in a draw.

James Rodriguez put Madrid in front with less than 10 minutes to play but Garcia levelled shortly after, parity remaining until the final whistle with the second leg to come at Vicente Calderon on Friday.

“We didn’t see anything as lost, we never give up. This is the work of everyone,” AS reports Garcia as saying.

“[The second leg] is yet another game at home and we want to be with the fans and win another trophy.”

Asked about both Atletico’s summer signings and the number of yellow cards the team received, Garcia praised the new arrivals and dismissed the meaning of the cautions.

“I’ve always said it’s important to have proven quality players and every year we try to do the same,” he added.

“The bookings were for nothing. In the end the referee is in charge and sets the bar but you want to be aggressive while being clean.”
