Arsenal could make an approach for Real Madrid’s Alvaro Arbeloa as Arsene Wenger searches for a versatile defender.
AS report Wenger wants a defender who can play in either full-back role or as a centre-back and the 31-year-old Arbeloa fits the bill.
Arsenal have signed two right-backs, Mathieu Debuchy and Calum Chambers, this summer, having lost Bacary Sagna to Manchester City.
The future of Thomas Vermaelen remains in doubt and Arbeloa would cover the Belgium international, should he leave, with Manchester United interested.
Wenger is said to want Arbeloa’s character off-the-field as much as his on-field qualities, while Arbeloa may look for a fresh start after losing his place in Madrid to Dani Carvajal.
Arbeloa previously played in the Premier League for Liverpool, spending two-and-a-half years at Anfield before moving to Santiago Bernabeu.
