Jurgen Klopp won’t concede the tie despite Borussia Dortmund losing the first-leg of their Champions League quarter-final 3-0 to Real Madrid.
Goals from Gareth Bale, Isco and Cristiano Ronaldo sent Madrid on their way to victory, almost 12 months after Dortmund won the semi-final between the sides 4-3 on aggregate.
Klopp was asked at his post-match Press conference how Dortmund could turn the game around and what impact the number of absences in his side had on the result.
“We will fight back and we will try to set a trap for Madrid,” Klopp told reporters.
“There are two games in the tie. Madrid have taken their opportunities and we haven’t. We’re going to keep going.
“We have many options to overcome Madrid. Most important is that we are clear about why this result has come and what we have to do to get a better one in the return.
“Obviously there is a difference [from last year] but the goals we conceded have nothing to do with that.
“Bale got through our defence very easily and they play very fast football. We didn’t take our chances in the second-half. But we can do better.
“Madrid have gained Bale, Isco and Asier Illaramendi and not lost a single player except Mesut Ozil.
“Last year we reacted well when we missed a couple of people. At times it was difficult to react but what’s important is not to concede goals.
“We can’t give up and we have to be faithful to our style.”
Klopp was questioned further about not having Robert Lewandowski, who was suspended, and the impact it had on Dortmund’s game.
“People in this room think the team is worse than last year. We need to shut up and play Madrid and then we’ll see,” came Klopp’s reply.
