Atleti linked to De Bruyne

Chelsea winger Kevin De Bruyne is being linked with a move to Atletico Madrid, according to Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws.

The Belgian international has failed to cement a permanent starting place at Stamford Bridge since his €8m signing from Genk in January 2012 and was loaned to Werder Bremen last season, where he scored 10 goals in 33 Bundesliga appearances.

After returning to the Premier League club during the summer he was assured by boss Jose Mourinho that he had to a part to play with the Londoners, although his agent Patrick De Koster played it down.

“We didn’t receive any guarantees but that’s normal at a club like Chelsea. It’s up to Kevin to prove himself,” he said at the time.

However, the 22-year-old has made just three League starts this term and that has alerted Los Rojiblancos, with the newspaper claiming the player ‘has still not accepted Atletico’s proposal’.

In addition, De Bruyne’s Chelsea and Belgium teammate Eden Hazard recently advised him that he would need to leave the club if he still had ambitions of playing in next year’s World Cup in Brazil.
