Madrid have left-back headache

Real Madrid will head into Week 14’s trip to Almeria without a recognised left-back as Fabio Coentrao is injured and doubts surround Alvaro Arbeloa.

Once more after an international break, Los Blancos have welcomed back their Portuguese full-back from overseas duty with an injury and, combined with Marcelo’s continued recovery from his own respective injury, it leaves Carlo Ancelotti with minimal options this weekend.

Coentrao has suffered a grade I strain of the right thigh and could face as long as two weeks recovering.

Ancelotti’s selection headache for the weekend is worsened with possible stand-in left-back Alvaro Arbeloa having returned from duty with Spain complaining of sore hamstrings.

It is believed that for Saturday’s trip out to the Juegos Mediterraneos, Nacho Fernandez will deputise in the position.
