Ronaldo to skip Depor clash

Cristiano Ronaldo will be a notable absentee from Real Madrid’s midweek friendly with Deportivo, as he will be in Zurich for the UEFA Gala.

The Portuguese is expected to attend this Thursday’s annual event held by the European game’s governing body, as he is up against Barcelona’s Lionel Messi and Bayern Munich’s Franck Ribery for the UEFA Best Player in Europe Award.

Held before the UEFA Super Cup in Monaco, the 28-year-old will be unavailable for selection for Madrid’s friendly that same evening at Deportivo.

The recently relegated Galicians face Los Blancos in this year’s version of their traditional summer friendly, the Teresa Herrera Trophy.

Madrid have agreed to take part without charge in an attempt to help alleviate Depor’s financial situation. The capital club will also foot the bill for their own expenses, in return for taking primary rights to televise the match.
