New Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti is weighing up a move for Real Sociedad midfielder Asier Illarramendi, according to SER.
The Italian tactician is aware Los Blancos need to strengthen the midfield department during the summer and has reportedly asked President Florentino Perez to sign both Illarramendi and Barcelona’s Thiago Alcantara.
Illarramendi, 23, had a magnificent 2012-13 campaign, when he was instrumental in guiding the San Sebastian club to fourth in La Liga and a place in the qualifying round for next season’s Champions League.
However, the Basque outfit are confident the Spanish Under-21 international will remain at Anoeta for at least another season, and are understood to be unwilling to do business for anything less than the €30m release clause in the player’s contract.
For his part, Illarramendi has repeatedly reiterated his desire to stay with La Real when asked his intentions, although any firm offer from the capital club may well cause a rethink.
