Ronaldo targets Madrid records

Cristiano Ronaldo has reflected on the ‘honour’ of being one of Real Madrid’s highest goalscorers, but is determined to not stop until he reaches top spot.

The 28-year-old sits joint sixth in the club’s all-time goalscoring chart, having drawn level with Francisco Gento on Saturday thanks to a hat-trick against Sevilla.

“It’s an honour to be one of these legendary scorers and to be one of the top-scorers,” Ronaldo, now on 182 club goals, told Madrid’s official website this week.

“To make this list in the short time I’ve been with the club, to see my name associated with these players is a reason to be proud, motivated and happy.

“I’ve always said that records are made to be broken, not just by myself but by the next generation of players.

“I’m happy to have beaten these records and I’m happy to have reached these numbers. What I want more than anything is to keep on going and try for first place.

“My fondest goal-scoring memory? The most special goal that I’ve scored is always my last goal. Those of us that like scoring goals always pick the last one because it’s the most important one for us.”

In the same joint interview, Amancio Amaro, Emilio Butragueno, Pirri and Francisco Gento all lauded the Portuguese for his record-breaking pace in reaching the scoring list.
