Barca agree Song transfer

Barcelona have confirmed that they have now reached an agreement with Arsenal for the transfer of midfielder Alex Song.

The Cameroonian has been increasingly linked with the Catalan giants in the past few weeks, when reports emerged that he was interested in leaving the Gunners this summer.

Yesterday saw Arsene Wenger admit that the 24-year-old could depart and reports run that the player had demanded his transfer and had already emptied his locker.

This afternoon, Barcelona have confirmed  that they have indeed reached an agreement with the London side to buy the midfielder.

“FC Barcelona and Arsenal FC have reached an agreement for the transfer of Alex Song for €19m. The player will sign a contract for the next five seasons with a release clause of €80m,” read a brief statement on the Spanish club’s official website.

The player will travel to Barcelona this weekend ahead of a photo session at club offices on Monday morning and then medical examinations first at the Hospital de Barcelona and then at Joan Gamper Sports City.

Should everything go to plan then the player will sign his contract in the evening before being unveiled to his teammates and fans ahead the Joan Gamper Trophy due to be played on Monday night.

Arsenal have also confirmed on their official website that terms for the player's transfer have been agreed between the two teams. Last summer saw the Gunners sell Cesc Fabregas back to the Blaugrana for a fee of €29m.
