Xavi rejected Manchester United move to seal Barcelona return

Barcelona head coach Xavi reportedly rejected the chance to take over as Manchester United boss in 2021.

United are rumoured to have highlighted the former Spanish international as a possible replacement for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer following the Norwegian’s dismissal on November 21.

However, despite United making a ‘timid offer’ to Xavi, during his time in charge of Qatari side Al-Sadd, Xavi turned down their advances, to keep on course for his dream Barcelona comeback, as per reports from El Nacional.

Xavi’s predecessor Ronald Koeman had been sacked by the Catalan club just weeks before Solskjaer’s own departure from Old Trafford, with coach Sergi Barjuan placed in temporary charge of first team affairs.

However, with the Barcelona board determined to bring Xavi back to the Camp Nou dugout, there was no other option in his mind.

The 42-year-old subsequently agreed a deal to replace Koeman at the start of November, on a contract until the end of the 2023/24 season.
