Tottenham Hotspur defender Davinson Sanchez has revealed he rejected the chance to join Barcelona before moving to Ajax.
The Colombian central defender moved to Spurs last summer after spending a year in Amsterdam, but he has stated he joined the Eredivisie side in favour of a move to Barcelona B.
“There was an offer on the table (before Ajax) to join Barcelona, to whom I have been linked for a while,” the 21-year-old told Marca Colombia.
“I had won the Copa Libertadores with Atletico Nacional but I did not want to join a club if I would not be playing in their senior team at that point, it would not have felt right.
“I am convinced I would have ended up in Barca’s first team because I am confident in my own abilities, but the 50 games I played for Ajax was exactly what I needed at that stage in my career.”
