No reprisal if Alonso doesn’t renew

Real Madrid are reportedly prepared to stick with Xabi Alonso for the rest of the season, even if he informs them he wants to leave next summer.

The midfielder has yet to open negotiations on a contract renewal with Los Blancos, which with his current deal expiring next summer, has resulted in continued and growing speculation over his future.

El Confidencial today assert that whilst Madrid have yet to indicate financial figures or proposed length to any contract offer, they have communicated to Alonso their intention to extend his deal.

It is believed, though, that terms are being set at around the €6m-a-year mark to commit the 32-year-old until June 2016 and Madrid are seen as hopeful for a response from Alonso to officially begin talks on such a deal before the end of 2013.

It is also understood that should Alonso indicate to the club a desire not to renew and instead leave in June – with a number of clubs abroad linked – there will be ‘no reprisal’ from Madrid and the player will remain available for selection in the first team until the end of the season.
