Jonas responds to Valencia criticism

Valencia midfielder Jonas has responded to comments from a member of the club’s board designed to back under-fire boss Miroslav Djukic.

A remark from Rafael Bonmati that “Djukic does not take the penalties”, in reference to both Jonas and Ever Banega failing with the last two spot-kicks awarded to Valencia, has not gone down well with the Brazilian international.

“What he said is not important to us. If we got another penalty tomorrow I’d take it again. I have a strong personality and would not hesitate to do so.

“The most important thing is the club and changing the dynamic here, because if we ran up a sequence of victories then there would be no more talk,” Jonas told a Press conference.

The experienced 29-year-old missed Valencia’s last game with a groin injury but hopes to be available for the clash with Elche next Sunday, a match in which he hopes his teammates will show more intensity.

“We need more intensity against teams that we are supposedly superior to because sometimes we score the first goal then lower our guard,” he explained.
