Barca turned down Cartabia

Barcelona reported rejected the chance to sign Valencia’s burgeoning talent Fede Cartabia when he was a youngster.

The 20-year-old winger is currently catching the eye at Mestalla this season with performances and has a reported €20m buyout clause in his contract.

However, Mundo Deportivo report that his signing with Los Che back in 2006 when aged 13 only came after Barcelona rejected a recommendation.

Former Barca man Juan Antonio Pizzi reportedly pushed the Rosario-born talent towards the Catalans, only for them to turn down the youngster at the trial stage.

Subsequently, Pizzi apparently then recommended Cartabia to another of his former sides in Valencia, who acted and signed him.
