Martinez denies Getafe bid

Jesus Martinez, President and majority shareholder of Grupo Pachuca, has denied he is in talks to buy La Liga outfit Getafe.

According to Marca, Martinez confirmed by telephone that he met Getafe President Angel Torres [pictured] in Mexico this week, although he dismissed reports he was interested in purchasing the Madrid club.

“I invited Angel Torres to the Hall of Fame, where [Real Madrid director of institutional relations] Emilio Butragueno delivered a very nice message, and yes it’s true I met with him.

“However, we never talked about buying Getafe, although previously we were interested in buying a Spanish team, but it was not Getafe.

“To be honest, right now our priorities are concentrated on Mexico, where we are seeking to improve and grow, but after that we’ll see about Spain.

Torres has been actively seeking an investor to take charge of the club and recent reports indicated that Carlos Slim, who is also linked to Grupo Pachuca and is believed to be the world’s richest man, had shown an interest.
