Former Real Madrid boss John Toshack has called on Gareth Bale to learn to speak Spanish ‘out of respect for the fans’ of the club.
Toshack managed a number of teams in Spain including Real Sociedad and Deportivo La Coruna, while he handed Bale his debut as a Wales international.
Bale moved to the Spanish capital in the summer of 2013 from Tottenham but has rarely spoken in the language in the six years since.
“If you move to a team abroad, you should learn the language out of respect for the fans,” Toshack told Onda Cero, as cited by Diario AS.
“Bale needs to make an effort and if he does that will help him, he is a truly great player but has been restricted been injuries.”
