Barcelona ‘want Manchester City’s Nicolas Otamendi’

Barcelona are eyeing a surprise move for out-of-favour Manchester City defender Nicolas Otamendi, according to reports.

The 30-year-old has started only eight Premier League games this season and has fallen behind John Stones, Vincent Kompany and Aymeric Laporte in the club’s pecking order.

A report in The Sun claims the Argentine is now actively seeking a departure from the English champions and the Camp Nou has emerged as a surprise destination.

Otamendi joined City in 2015 in a €35m deal from Valencia and is already familiar with Spanish football, although Barca have already signed central defender Jeison Murillo on a loan deal until the end of the campaign.

“He's not happy. When he plays he's happy, when he doesn't play he's not happy, but not just Otamendi, everybody. All of them,” Guardiola told reporters earlier this month.

“We would like to [keep him], but it depends on the players and the agents.”
