Diego Godin, Filipe Luis ‘likely to leave Atletico Madrid’

Atletico Madrid look set to lose experienced defenders Diego Godin (pictured) and Filipe Luis on free transfers this summer, report Cadena Cope.

Godin joined Atleti in the summer of 2010, helping them win La Liga four years later, and is both their captain and foreign player with the most appearances.

Paris Saint-Germain approached Brazilian full-back Luis this summer and are thought to still hold an interest in the player.

The report claims both are unlikely to negotiate new deals with Los Rojiblancos although full-back Juanfran, who is also out of contract, is likely to pen a fresh contract.

The same piece also claims Jan Oblak is set to agree a new long-term contract while the club remain confident of retaining Lucas Hernandez amid interest from Bayern Munich.

However, Jose Ignacio Fernandez, who wrote defender Godin’s biography ‘Courage, Heart and Head’, tweeted: “Godin has not signed any agreement with Inter, but the truth is that Atletico made promises to the player after the Manchester United offer and never kept them.

“They’ve made no effort at all to renew Godin’s contract.”
