Caparros set for Sevilla?

Sevilla are considering dismissing Vincenzo Montella and appointing former Coach Joaquin Caparros until the end of the season, say reports in Spain.

Caparros, 62, has managed 13 clubs across Spanish football with his most famous stint a five-year spell at Sevilla between 2000 and 2005.

Most recently, Caparros managed Osasuna between November and January last season but his side only won once in his eight matches in charge before spending six months at Qatari club Al Ahli.

Reports across the Spanish press suggests Montella will be sacked after collecting just 19 points in La Liga from 16 games and losing Saturday’s Copa del Rey final 5-0 to Barcelona.

Sevilla Info further outlines how Los Rojiblancos had wanted to re-appoint Caparros several times over the years but the move was blocked by former sporting director Monchi, who ‘does not have a strong relationship’ with the Coach.

Montella replaced Eduardo Berizzo in the Sevilla dugout in December but has seen his side slip two places in the table with a series of heavy domestic defeats.
