Nolito: Sevilla sacked Berizzo too hastily

Sevilla forward Nolito has criticised the club’s decision to sack Coach Eduardo Berizzo in December: “It was a bit hasty…”

The Argentine tactician – in charge when the forward joined Los Rojiblancos – was dismissed by the club just before Christmas due to a slow start to the domestic campaign.

“Berizzo's dismissal was a bit hasty,” Nolito told the Galicia en Goles programme on Radio Galega, as cited by Estadio Deportivo.

“Honestly, he was not given the proper opportunity and only had five months in charge and in this type of situation, that was not enough but I am sure he will coach again.

“Qualification for Europe? There is always pressure for us and if we do not make the Europa League at least then that will be disappointing.

“The trip to Celta will be very tough, they have an excellent team and in Iago Aspas, they have the best Spanish forward.

“Celta contacted me this summer and wanted me on a season-long loan, but I needed a long-term deal and Sevilla offered me that.

“I have lots of friends in Vigo, my two daughters were born there and it was the best spell of my football career.”
