Valverde: Many more obstacles…

Ernesto Valverde warned Barcelona that ‘many more obstacles’ awaited them against Roma, despite their 4-1 win in Tuesday’s first leg.

Barca capitalised on two own goals and strikes from Gerard Pique and Luis Suarez to take control of their Champions League quarter-final with Roma, but Valverde made it clear his side still had much to do for a place in the last four.

“I don’t see us in the semi-finals yet, absolutely not,” the Coach said at a Press conference.

“It’s a good result, but I preferred 3-0 to 4-1. They showed themselves to be a great team. We now have a game there and many more obstacles to overcome.

“We were too hasty in trying to pass their line of pressure. The game was alive and they have quality players.

“The second half was more open and we punished them with a couple of moves. They scored against us, but luckily we scored the fourth when the game was give-and-take.

“If you don’t get close to your opponents’ goal, you don’t provoke own goals. Treble? I have no inkling of it because I see how difficult it is for us to win games, as well as the level of the teams we’re facing. I’m not thinking beyond the next game.

“Busquets? He asked to be changed. He had a small knock. Ter Stegen? He had an extraordinary game.

“He did everything, from his dribble and losing the ball to his save. It’s better that he made up for it.

“Semedo? We took Roma’s left wing, which is very powerful, into account. We had to force them back and also swarm around them when they asked for it.”
