Emery: We were made to work

Unai Emery has conceded that Sevilla were made to work for their 4-1 Europa League Play-off first leg win over Slask Wroclaw.

In the home leg of this tie to determine a spot in the group stages of the European competition, Sevilla went behind to Marco Paixao’s early goal.

Ivan Rakitic equalised 10 minuntes before half-time, whilst 10 minutes after the break the visitors were reduced to 10 men and then Los Nervionenses powered through with two goals from Marko Marin either side of one from Kevin Gameiro.

“The result is good, but how the game went and the circumstance that were there have meant that we have had to work right up until 93 minutes,” conceded Emery afterwards.

“They were a difficult opponent as they have players who like to play. Granted there is the result, but if they are able to find accuracy then they can hurt us.

“They scored the first and that has raised doubts that had to be controlled. We struggled and we have not been clear in the game, but we were able to create chances.

“With this, and the red card, we have been able to overpower them. They were a side with strength, whilst their goal knocked us and the injury to Kondogbia affected things.

“We have had to work, but in the end we were decisive. In the end we can be satisfied.”
