Barcelona are reportedly weighing up a cut-price move for Valencia’s Jeremy Mathieu this summer to improve their defensive options.
On from the player commenting that he would be willing to move on if Valencia needed the money, Mundo Deportivo say that his entourage have offered him this summer to Barca.
The Frenchman is in the early stages of contract renewal talks with Los Che officials, with his current deal set to expire in June 2014, whilst his buyout clause is currently set at €8m.
Amid an injury crisis at Mestalla earlier in the season, Coach Ernesto Valverde moved the regular left-back, who can also play left midfield, into a central defensive role.
Scouts from Barca are known to have visited Valencia’s ground on more than one occasion this season and where it was seen they were assessing goalkeeper Vicente Guaita, speculation is that they have also taken note of the 29-year-old Mathieu.
