Emery: We intended to win

Unai Emery was left happy with Sevilla’s point at Real Valladolid, but believes that they deserved the three points, which they also needed.

The Andalucians played out a 1-1 result to extend their poor form on the road this season to just the one win in 17.

“We started with the need to win, the intention was only to bring home three points, knowing the difficulty of the opponent, but it depended on us,” commented Emery post-match.

We were at the higher level of play and had the chances. In the first half we were less superior, whilst their goal hit us hard.

“In the second half the team has pushed forward and created more presence around their goal and more chances.

“They had two good chances to our five. I’m happy because the team has taken a step forward.

“The away form? You have to look at what you can do, you have to be self-critical, to know that we must do better, for the team has to adjust to a line that they should be contemplating.

“The team has shown solidity at home and this imbalance on the road leads to questions that must be addressed, not dispelled.”
