Aragones: Mourinho is a winner

Luis Aragones has backed Jose Mourinho, picked out Xavi Hernandez as ‘ideal’ and admitted that France have it difficult tonight.

Talking to Radio Marca, the former Spain Coach reflected on Xavi’s assertion over the weekend that Real Madrid Coach Mourinho ‘won’t go down in history’ because of the style of play of his team.

“I think he is a winner in football completely and he will go down in history because he has more than anyone done what Coaches must do and that is win,” responded the veteran, before turning to also compliment Xavi for his influence on the national team.

“What [Andres] Iniesta does is tremendously difficult, but the main man for me is Xavi. He practically does not lose the ball and he makes the team play as he wants.

“He is the ideal man for the national team.”

Spain face France in tonight’s World Cup qualifier at the Vicente Calderon in a game that Aragones reflected is hard to see beyond the home side for three points.

“Spain is at a peak that is difficult for them to beat. But it is a tricky game, it won’t be easy to win against France because they are a tough opponent with quality players.”
