Jose Callejon has warned Sevilla that Real Madrid won’t be taking them lightly this weekend, even if the intention to win remains the same.
Los Blancos have actually found it comfortable visiting the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan in recent seasons, having won on four of their last five visits in League and Cup and recording 6-2 wins in both of their previous trips south.
However, Callejon has asserted that the defending League champions won’t be taking three points for granted in Week 4’s game at the Rojiblancos, even if a win is their only goal.
“Every time we go to Sevilla it is very difficult. For the team and the great players they have they can embarrass us,” reflected the 25-year-old to his club’s official media package.
“But as I always say, we are Real Madrid and we have to go anywhere to win, because that is our target.”
The former Espanyol man then turned his attention to the Champions League group stage facing Real from a week today with the visit of Manchester City.
“We are really looking forward to the Champions League. It is a tournament that we love to play. We have had a very difficult draw and I hope we do our best to win the group and make the knockout phase as simple as possible.”
The versatile forward was in good form during pre-season, but fielded questions on the subject with hesitation.
“Being the top scorer in pre-season is anecdotal. You always want to do your best and to get into shape quickly. We’ve all had a great pre-season and it was good to get into shape for a good start.
“In the League that has not happened as we would have liked, but we have won the Supercopa de Espana, which is what we wanted. We face matches like these and in the Champions League with high hopes and eager to do well.”
Callejon was one of the few players at the Bernabeu not involved with his national team during the international break.
“I live with the peace of mind that there is a week and a half without any games. There were a few of us at Valdebebas to train this week, I was keen to boost my physical fitness.
“You can work more when there are no games and accelerate in getting to a certain point.”
