Capdevila still learning at 34

Juan Capdevila is relishing his debut for Espanyol this weekend and believes that for all his experience he is still picking up new tricks.

The former Villarreal full-back signed for the Catalan club this summer after an unhappy stay in Portugal and is one of the more experienced members of Mauricio Pochettino’s squad.

Even so, the Spaniard is talking this week as an enthusiastic novice anticipating his first game for the club.

“Every day I’m learning new things in this club and with this Coach,” the World Cup-winner told reporters today.

“I’m working on aspects that I have not done so before and I am keen to be a better player.

“[Saturday’s game with Mallorca] is another debut for me. I am excitied and it means a lot for me to return to La Liga.

“I feel like one of the team and the responsibility will be the same for everyone, to try and help the team win.

“I’m ready to play the minutes that are asked of me. I’ve played four friendlies and they have served me well to adapt to the Coach’s philosophy. I am keen to get going.

“The late kick-off? The players here have given it little thought.”
