Malaga are awaiting the arrival of money from their Qatari owners before boss Manuel Pellegrini can delve into the transfer market.
According to AS, Vice-President Abdullah Ghubn intends to transfer €50m so the Chilean is able to strengthen his squad, with two strikers, a centre-back and a central midfielder all on his wish list.
While numerous players have been linked with the Costa del Sol club over the summer, director of football Antonio Fernandez has been unable to make a formal offer for any of them thus far, although he has been involved in negotiations with several agents.
There have been strong rumours Sevilla frontman Alvaro Negredo will be arriving at La Rosaleda shortly, with Villarreal’s Bruno Soriano and Giovani Dos Santos of Tottenham Hotspur both identified as possible targets.
Malaga’s problem is that every club now wants hard cash – a situation new to Spanish football where deals have more often than not been done over a period of years – and the club’s owners feel they are being squeezed for more money as they are one of the few clubs able to spend big.
However, of more pressing concern is a serious overload of players, with Pellegrini starting pre-season training last Friday with more than 30 professionals at his disposal, not counting Santi Cazorla who is on extended holiday due to his participation in Euro 2012.
Midfielder Xavi Torres has returned from his loan spell at Levante, although he is the subject of a tug-of-war between Los Granotes and Getafe that will likely be settled in court, and exits are also being sought for Apono, Sandro Silva, Edinho and Ivan Gonzalez.
Rayo Vallecano are also understood to be interested in Diego Buonanotte and Recio but the Madrid club are unable to pay a fee for either with their reported debts of €60m, and may try to broker a loan deal for the pair.
