More and more in the modern game, clubs expect managers not only to be the public face of the institution, and the character that will set the tone for the team on the pitch too. Just as often as exciting players, the most exciting managers receive attention in the media these days too.

The manager of a side has a major impact throughout the club, and as the game becomes increasingly tactical, on those analysing games too. Any fans who are interested in online sports betting will no doubt take it into account before getting involved. So who are the most impressive this season so far?

Eder Sarabia at Elche

Elche have been the revelation of the season so far in La Liga, and currently sit in an impressive 8th spot ahead of fascinating trip to Barcelona. Manager Eder Sarabia comes up against the side he once worked for as assistant manager, and received no shortage of criticism. Los Ilicitanos were tipped to be in the relegation battle, but are just two points off the European spots, and have been beaten just twice.

Beyond the results, Elche have impressed going up against some of the best sides in the division, securing draws against Atletico Madrid and Athletic Club. They have done so with an attractive style, confidence on the ball, and no fear of defeat.

Manolo Gonzalez at Espanyol

Espanyol were in the relegation battle last season, and only survived on the final day of the season with a win over Las Palmas. Despite losing their best player Joan Garcia to rivals Barcelona, Gonzalez and Sporting Director Fran Garagarza have strengthened Espanyol with smart investment and continuity.

Sitting in fifth spot, Los Pericos have only been beaten by Real Madrid and Real Betis, two European challengers. With the new signings bedded in, Espanyol are now one of the most difficult teams to face in La Liga, and Gonzalez has exhibited a tactical versatility that has surprised many.

Inigo Perez at Rayo Vallecano

While Rayo Vallecano are in more or less the same position as last season – one spot higher in seventh – a quick look at Athletic or Celta Vigo behind them is evidence that continuity is an achievement for the clubs who qualify for Europe. Inigo Perez’s side are already punching above their weight by qualifying for the Conference League, but to continue looking like the Rayo of last season while juggling European competition with a short squad deserves plenty of praise.
