Real Madrid starlet Arda Guler looks set to remain in the Spanish capital next season, after coach Carlo Ancelotti’s statement to that effect on Friday. It appears to end uncertainty over the 19-year-old’s future, having not been playing much under the Italian.
As recently as a month ago, Ancelotti’s staff were advising him to head out on loan next season in order to continue developing. The likes of Sevilla and Real Betis, amongst many more, are reported to have enquired at Real Madrid about the potential for a loan move.
According to Cadena SER, via Diario AS, Guler already was turning down offers to leave Real Madrid in January, keen to prove his worth at the Santiago Bernabeu. After Bayern Munich brought forward a deal to sign Bryan Zaragoza by six months, Los Nazaries got in touch with Guler, recently recovered from injury at the time, to offer him his spot in the team.
Those at Granada knew him from his time in Turkey, and have a good relationship with the teenager, but saw their politely declined. As it were, Guler decided to remain at Real Madrid and battle for his spot.
It took until last weekend for him to earn his first league start, but is already showing his quality, having scored twice in his limited opportunities. There is little doubt over his talent, and as Ancelotti recently remarked, he is ‘unfair to someone’ every game. Next season with the arrival of Endrick Felipe and potentially Kylian Mbappe, his opportunities threaten to be limited again though.
