Valencia’s European push stalls with Getafe draw

Valencia’s chances of securing a possible European qualification spot at the end of the campaign have been dealt a blow after drawing 0-0 away at Getafe.

Getafe are battling against relegation, with Los Che looking upwards at the Top Six since the start of 2022, but it will be the hosts who will be happier with a point at the Estadio Coliseum Alfonso Perez.

Quique Sanchez Flores’ side enjoyed the better chances early on in the Spanish capital with strike pair Sandro Ramirez and Enes Unal kept out before the break.

However, the home side did improve in the second period, with a flurry of chances, before Borja Mayoral’s bizarre close range finish was eventually ruled out by VAR.

The result has little impact on either side’s place in the overall table overnight with Valencia away at neighbours Elche next weekend and Getafe heading off on the road to face Athletic Club.
