Barcelona give injury update: Pedri makes shock return, Araujo sidelined

On the pitch, this week’s Barcelona news is focused on the side’s upcoming Copa del Rey semi-final second leg against Sevilla.

The two sides also played out an encounter in La Liga this weekend – which the Blaugrana won 2-0 – but the Catalan giants sustained two significant injuries which marred their triumph.

Teenage midfield star Pedri and defensive star Ronald Araujo both limped off with injuries but one of those players has, to everyone’s surprise, returned to the fold ahead of the cup clash.

As outlined by El Mundo Deportivo, Pedri was involved in the full training session but Araujo missed out and will not participate in the semi-final game.

Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman told reporters on Tuesday, in quotes carried by El Mundo Deportivo: “There are things that can hardly be explained. I was also surprised yesterday that he already returned to individual training. Today he trained without problems. We have to wait for tomorrow, but he can enter the list.”

Long-term absentees Ansu Fati, Sergi Roberto and Phillipe Coutinho are also unavailable for the Catalan side, while Miralem Pjanic is also sitting out the tie due to injury.
