La Liga have confirmed Eibar’s clash with Real Sociedad on Sunday February 15 has been postponed due to concerns over air quality issues in the area.
A landfill site close to Eibar collapsed on February, with recovery work ongoing to rescue to workers believed to be trapped inside.
Local authorities have confirmed air quality tests have registered a concerning level of toxins, including dioxin and furans, and advised against a suspension of all sporting areas in and around the town.
Both clubs confirmed there were in consultation with both La Liga and the RFEF regarding a possible extension of the suspension to their game, as per the official advice.
La Liga have no released an official statement confirming the postponement of the Basque derby, with an update on a rearranged date expected next week.
Jose Luis Mendilibar’s side are away at Barcelona next weekend, but their following back to back games, against Levante and Real Mallorca, could also be moved.
