Valencia look to sign Leganes defender Dimitrios Siovas

Valencia will attempt to sign Leganes defender Dimitrios Siovas following a long-term injury for captain Ezequiel Garay.

A report in Marca outlines how Los Che would be entitled to signing a player in Garay’s position outside the transfer window if he is contracted to another Spanish club.

Siovas, 31, has emerged as a prime candidate among officials at the Mestalla and has already made 14 appearances for struggling Lega this campaign.

However, any move may be complicated by the fact that the Madrid-based club are in the midst of a relegation battle and have no need to sell after netting €20m from the sale of striker Youssef En-Nesyri to Sevilla last month.

Leganes signed Greek international Siovas in a €3m deal from Olympiakos in the summer of 2017 and he has made 98 appearances for the club in all competitions in the timeframe since.

Siovas would not be able to play for Valencia in the Champions League knockout stages, as the registration deadline has been missed.
