Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde has no plans to resign

Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde has no plans to leave his position in the immediate future.

Valverde was asked about his future following La Blaurgrana's 3-1 defeat away at Levante this weekend, however the former Athletic Bilbao boss stated he has no intention of leaving.

He has come in for criticism so far this season, despite Barcelona topping La Liga, after losing three La Liga games so far this season.

"This (Levante) is just a defeat.

"Of course there is no reason I am thinking of resigning from the club.

"The players have responded to these situations in the pas, and they are working hard, I am happy with them.

"We always react in these situations, and we must be calm as we do so again."

Valverde's position was reportedly under threat over the summer, following damaging defeats to Liverpool and Valencia in the Champions League and Copa del Rey final respectively.

That meant Barcelona ended the season with just a league title, despite being in a strong position to claim a domestic and European treble in the closing weeks of the season.

However the club's board have resoundingly backed him so far this season, and will wait until next summer to make a decision on his future.
