Sevilla, Getafe and Espanyol record Europa League victories

Sevilla, Getafe and Espanyol all recorded Europa League victories in an impressive night for Spanish sides in the competition.

Javier Hernandez’s first half goal was enough for Sevilla to earn a 1-0 win at home to APOEL Nicosia and put them in control of Group A – a victory which was their 100th in European competition.

Espanyol recorded just their second win in nine matches in all competitions as they triumphed 2-0 at CSKA Moscow to ease the pressure on under-fire boss David Gallego.

The Catalan club are in the drop zone in La Liga with just five points from their opening seven games and an opening day draw at home to Hungarian outsiders Ferencvaros only added to the pressure.

However, second half strikes from Wu Lei and Víctor Campuzano gave them an impressive three points in the Russian capital.

Getafe also triumphed in Russia with a 2-1 win in Krasnodar to build on their opening day group win against Trabzonspor.

Angel Rodriguez netted both goals for Los Azulones, who had David Timor sent off late in the game.
