Real Madrid’s Nacho injured until Christmas

Real Madrid defender Nacho Fernandez has been ruled out until late December with knee ligament damage, it has been reported.

El Mundo Deportivo say the Spain international will miss two and a half months of action with the injury, sustained in Tuesday’s 2-2 Champions League draw against Club Brugge.

Madrid confirmed via a statement after the game that the versatile defender had sustained ‘an injury to the internal collateral ligament of the right knee.’

Although the timeframe for a return was not confirmed by Los Blancos, a typical injury of that nature takes a minimum of two months to recover from and possibly more.

The incident occurred during the first half of Tuesday’s game with Nacho withdrawn at the break to be replaced by Marcelo, who himself had only just recovered from injury.

Meanwhile, €55m summer signing from Lyon Ferland Mendy is also unavailable in the left-back slot, meaning Marcelo is likely to remain in the position for the upcoming matches.
