Barcelona open to selling Ivan Rakitic

Barcelona are open to selling midfielder Ivan Rakitic this month with no firm opposition within the club, report Diario AS.

It is claimed by the fresh report that boss Ernesto Valverde – a long-term admirer of the Croatian midfielder – will no longer oppose the sale should the club decide to go down that path.

The Croatian international’s current deal at the Camp Nou runs through until the summer of 2021 although Barca signed midfielders Arturo Vidal and Arthur Melo last year and have landed Frenkie De Jong from Ajax this summer.

This has left the Blaugrana with an overcrowded midfield and Rakitic has not been selected in the starting line-up for either of the side’s opening La Liga matches this campaign.

Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain have both been strongly linked with a move for the player this summer, but the former Sevilla captain has previously played down any links.

Rakitic explained last month, in quotes cited by Marca: “It's a situation (the exit rumours) that I'm used to since I'm here, last year the same thing happened to me.

“I talked to the club and the Coach and the idea is the same, and my idea is to continue with Barça, I'm open, but my idea is very clear and my intention is to continue here and continue enjoying because being here because I have more years left on my contract.”
