Alaves’ Olivier Verdon arrested on assault charges

Alaves defender Olivier Verdon has been arrested on suspicion of assault.

According to reports in Galician newspaper La Voz de Galicia, the 23-year old was arrestd by police following allegations that he attacked his girlfriend at a hotel in Vitoria.

Verdon signed for the Vitoria-based club this summer in a €450,000 deal from Ligue 1 side Sochaux, and had been temporarily staying in the hotel following his move to Spain.

The newspaper interviewed eyewitnesses of the incident that claim Verdon dragged his partner by the hair through the hotel, with hotel staff calling the police shortly after.

He has been released on police bail, pending further enquiries, after testifying in front of a local judge.

Alaves CF have not made an official statement on the incident at this stage.
