Espanyol dedicate European win to Dani Jarque

Espanyol defeated FC Luzern 3-0 away from home in the first leg of their Europa League qualifying round tie.

The result came on the tenth anniversary of the death of their former captain Dani Jarque, who died of a heart attack in pre-season ahead of the 2009-10 campaign.

Jarque passed away ages 26 and the Espanyol players paid tribute to the former central defender after their goals went in against the Swiss side.

Facundo Ferreyra headed home a Oscar Melendo cross in the 28th minute before second half goals from Didac Vila and Matias Vargas.

Espanyol have already eliminated Icelandic side Stjarnan and will face the winners of Bulgarian side’s side CSKA Sofia against Zorya Luhansk of Ukraine.
