Ernesto Valverde not keen on Barcelona’s US tour

Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde is not enthused by the club going on a pre-season trip to the United States ahead of La Liga restarting.

The Coach of the Spanish champions has said that whilst the trip is “important for the club at an economic and social level,” he insisted it was “complicated” for players who have not yet trained.

It has been a complicated pre-season logistically for the Blaugrana after they previously visited Japan, before hosting Arsenal in the Joan Gamper trophy last weekend.

Barca will now holding training sessions in Miami and Ann Arbor before playing two friendly matches against Italian side Napoli, while players have not yet featured after representing their nations in the Copa America.

This trip to the States means that the club have less than a week to recover following their final pre-season encounter and the league opener against Athletic Club Bilbao, either on Friday 17 or Saturday 18.

“The tour is important for the club, economically and socially,” Valverde said, as cited by Diario AS.

“But for the team it is complicated…we must travel many kilometers and with players who have not trained. We will see how we can solve it.”
