West Ham to move for Espanyol forward Borja Iglesias

West Ham could make a last minute move for Espanyol striker Borja Iglesias ahead of Real Betis.

Rubi has been working hard to bring his former Iglesias to the Estadio Benito Villamarin, after he scored 20 goals under the new Real Betis boss in Catalonia last season.

Espanyol club president Carlos Garcia Point has confirmed that the club have received a bid from Real Betis for the former Celta Vigo forward, but they are still some way apart in their valuations of the 26-year old.

Iglesias has a €28m release clause at the RCDE Stadium, however Real Betis are not willing to pay that amount up front, preferring instead to pay €30m in staggered instalments.

The Premier League side would be willing to pay the release clause in full, and potentially more, after being frustrated in their €50m pursuit of Celta Vigo striker Maxi Gomez, according to reports in Marca.

Manuel Pellegrini's side were willing to pay the Uruguayan's €50m release clause at the Galician club, however he has opted to move to fellow La Liga side Valencia CF instead – with the added lure of Champions League football for the 2019-20 season.
