Bernardo Espinosa joins Espanyol on loan

Bernardo Espinosa has left relegated Girona to joining La Liga side Espanyol.

The 29-year old had been widely linked with a move away from the Estadio Montilivi, following Girona's drop into the second tier, and now he will play under former Huesca boss David Gallego at Espanyol.

The Colombian has been a key figure for Girona in recent seasons, joining in 2017 and helping them keep their La Liga status for two seasons, and making 55 league appearances.

The Catalan club have an option to purchase the experienced centre back at the end of the 2019-20 season, having agreed a purchase option with Girona.

Espanyol are looking to get their transfer business done as early as possible ahead of the new campaign, as they prepare for the additional demands of Europa League football in the coming weeks.

Star defender Mario Hermoso has consistently been linked with a move to Atletico Madrid, however a transfer is yet to materialise for the Spanish international.
