Bordeaux move for Arsenal captain Laurent Koscielny

Bordeaux are primed to approach Arsenal captain Laurent Koscielny to replace Jules Kounde, according to various reports.

Marca cite French outlet L’Equipe as reporting that the experienced Gunners captain is on the Ligue 1’s club radar, with the highly-rated Kounde set to join Sevilla.

The Frenchman has just one year left on his contract with the London side and is thought to be open to the idea of leaving this summer.

He made 29 appearances in all competitions last season, having recovered from the serious Achilles injury he sustained last May, which led to him missing out on his country’s 2018 World Cup victory.

Kounde is travelling to Seville this week ahead of undergoing a medical at the club and is set to become their fifth signing of an increasingly busy summer.

The 20-year-old is one of the most in-demand players in Ligue 1 and has made 70 first-team appearances for the club over the past two seasons, netting four goals.

The report describes the defender as ‘quick, with a high level of anticipation and concentration, powerful’, and is highly thought of in coaching circles.

With this in mind, Bordeaux are said to be holding out for a minimum of €25m for the defender and Sevilla appear to have come back with a higher offer which has been accepted.
