Atletico Madrid interested in Gabriel Paulista and Joaquin Correa

Atletico Madrid are chasing transfer targets in Italy and Spain, as Diego Simeone looks to rebuild his squad.

The Argentine boss is set for a busy summer, as he searches for replacements for Juanfran, Diego Godin, Filipe Luis, and likely Antonie Griezmann, ahead of the 2019-20 La Liga season.

The priority for Los Rojiblancos is reinforcements in defence, with Jose Giminez and Stefan Savic their only senior options at centre back following the upheaval at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Valencia-based newspaper Plaza Deportiva have reported that Simeone has earmarked Valencia centre back as his primary target in central defence, but according to the report, Marcelino's side have already rejected a €15m bid for the Brazilian international.

Los Che would prefer not to lose the former Arsenal defender, particularly not to a top four rival, however they would be willing to negotiate, should Atletico increase their bid significantly.

Another reported target for Simeone is for Lazio wing back Joaquin Correa, who they also tried to sign from Sevilla, prior to his move to Serie A at the start of last season.

However, Italian daily Il Tempo claims that the two sides are still someway off agreeing a deal for the Argentina international, with the Rome-based side holding out for a fee between €40-60m.
