Sevilla’s Jose Antonio Reyes tribute for Europa League

Sevilla will use the slogan ‘Reyes de Europa’ (Kings of Europe) in their bid to host the 2021 Europa League final, it has been confirmed.

The slogan is part of the club’s tribute to their late former captain Jose Antonio Reyes, who passed away, aged 35, following a car accident earlier this month.

Reyes had won more Europa League titles than any other player – winning two medals while at Atletico de Madrid before three more in succession between 2014 and 2016 with Sevilla.

The Andalusian club have a special relationship with the tournament having won it more than any other club and five times since 2006.

The stadium in southern Spain will be directly up against bids from Austrian capital Vienna and Tbilisi, in Georgia.

The city of Seville hosted the 2003 UEFA Cup final, when FC Porto defeated Glasgow Celtic 3-2 in La Cartuja – a stadium without a host club.

The formal proposals from each venue for the 2021 final had to be submitted to UEFA by 15 February 2019 with an executive committee then sitting to decide upon the winner.
