Samuel Umtiti committed to FC Barcelona

FC Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti has committed his future to the club after an injury ravaged season.

The French international made just 14 appearances in all competitions in 2018-19, with a knee injury disrupting his third season at the Camp Nou.

However the former Lyon centre back is determined to get back into the team in 2019-20, with his injury issues now behind him.

"I have had a difficult season, but I have a contract here until 2023, and I am happy here, he told Spanish broadcaster RTL.

"I will be at Barcelona next season, that is certain."

French international team mate Clement Lenglet replaced Umtiti as Gerard Pique's regular defensive partner last season, however both could find themselves playing a back up role in 2018-20 if the club complete the signing of Ajax's Matthijs De Ligt.

One player also set for a move to Catalonia is Umtiti's international colleague Antoine Griezmann, who has asked to leave Atletico Madrid, and the 25-year old is open to Griezmann's arrival.

"The question of Griezmann coming to Barcelona is an interesting one.

"However the reports that players have discussed it are not true, unless I missed that conversation in the dressing room."
